Sorrow | Sleeping At Last

it feels like falling.
it feels like rain.
like losing my balance
again and again.
it once was so easy;
breathe in. breathe out.
but at the foot of this mountain,
i only see clouds.

i feel out of focus,
or at least indisposed
as this strange weather pattern
inside me takes hold.
each brave step forward,
i take three steps behind
it’s mind over matter –
matter over mind.

slowly,
then all at once.
a single loose thread
and it all comes undone.

where there is light,
a shadow appears.
the cause and effect
when life interferes.
the same rule applies
to goodness and grief;
for in our great sorrow,
we learn what joy means.

i don’t want to fight,
i don’t want to fight it.
but i will learn to fight,
i will learn fight
’til this pendulum finds equilibrium.

slowly,
then all at once.
the dark clouds depart,
and the damage is done.

so pardon the dust
while this all settles in.
with a broken heart,
transformation begins.

Way Out There – Lord Huron

I’m a long way from the land that I left
I’ve been running through life and cruising toward death
If you think that I’m scared you’ve got me wrong
If you don’t know my name, you’ll know it now
I belong bodily to the earth
I’m just wearing old bones from those that came first
There are many more flames when mine is gone
They will build me no shrines and sing me no songs

I’m a long way from the one that I loved
I’ve been tending old flames, lamenting what was
Drifting in a land that time forgot
If you think that I’ve changed, you know me not
I belong bodily to the earth
I’m just wearing old bones from those that came first
I been unraveling since my birth
Gonna wander out there and see what I’m worth

Find me way out there
there’s no road that will lead us back
When you follow the strange trails
they will take you who knows where
If I found a way to stay with you tonight
it would only make me late, for a date I can’t escape

Sleeping At Last – I’ll Keep You Safe

I’ll keep you safe
Try hard to concentrate
Hold out your hand
Can you feel the weight of it
The whole world at your fingertips
Don’t be, don’t be afraid
Our mistakes they were bound to be made
But I promise you I’ll keep you safe

You’ll be an architect so pull up your sleeves
And build a new silhouette
In the skylines up ahead
Don’t be, don’t be afraid
Our mistakes they were bound to be made
But I promise you I’ll keep you safe
I’ll keep you safe

Darkness will be rewritten
Into a work of fiction, you’ll see
As you pull on every ribbon
You’ll find every secret it keeps
The sound of the branches breaking under your feet
The smell of the falling and burning leaves
The bitterness of winter
Or the sweetness of spring
You are an artist
And your heart is your masterpiece
And I’ll keep it safe

Dismiss the invisible
By giving it shape
Like a clockmaker fixes time
By keeping the gears in line
Don’t be, don’t be afraid
God knows that mistakes will be made
But I promise you I’ll keep you safe

As you build up your collection
Of pearls that you pulled from the deep
A landscape more beautiful than anything that I’ve ever seen
The sound of the branches breaking under your feet
The smell of the falling and burning leaves
The bitterness of winter
Or the sweetness of spring
You are an artist
And your heart is your masterpiece
And I’ll keep it safe

The Dragon’s Daughter (A Game of Thrones Tribute Remix by Melodysheep)

Before listening to this song/remix thingy (whatever), I first listened to Melodysheep’s song/remix called We Are Stardust from his Symphony of Science album, and I was very much intrigued by the whole thing. I was intrigued by how this guy managed to take clips of scientists explaining science-y things and remix them to sound like they were singing instead of talking. And it was all done very nicely. I mean, it really does sound like they’re singing, and the tunes are sometimes really catchy. So when I was on tumblr a couple months ago and I came across a post showing a Game of Thrones remix, I was excited to see what it would sound like. I listened to it and fell in love with the first 45 seconds of it. The rest of the song/remix is good as well, just not as good as the first 45 seconds, in my opinion. In fact, I think I’ve listened to the first 45 seconds more times than I’ve listened to the whole thing. I don’t know why I like it so much, I just do. I get this excited feeling in my chest when I listen to it. It sounds nice, and the fact that I’m seeing characters from my second favorite TV show (my first being Sherlock) sorta singing, just makes it better. I think it’s a wonderful tribute to the show, so I thought I’d share it with whomever might be interested.

Overture by Sleeping At Last

It starts
With our eyes well acquainted
With the darkness
The mind was made to illuminate the heart
And when every constellation
Suddenly appeared
Through telescopes and calculations
The far was pulled so near

Even after everything we’ve seen
We’ve barely caught a glimpse of what it means
In the architecture of the soul
The universe began with our eyes closed

We claim our land
We tame our seas
We carve our names
On the surface of history
Til our hands get tied
By the stubborn will
Of gravity
Even after everything we’ve seen
We’ve barely caught a glimpse of what it means
In the architecture of the soul
The universe began with our eyes closed

In the rise and fall
Of a newborn’s chest
Like the ocean swells
We inhale, exhale and reset
Every living thing
Is in this constant state of unrest
Even after all our history
We’ve barely caught a glimpse of what it means
In the architecture of the soul
The universe began

Even after everything we’ve seen
We’ve barely caught a glimpse of what it means
In the architecture of the soul
The universe began with our eyes closed
